Pull the thread to tighten up these stitches so that the edges lie flat together.

Repeat from step 5 until the gap is closed.

Secure the thread at the end with a stay stitch and hide the thread tail.

BLANKET STITCH

Blanket and buttonhole stitch are stiches that are usually used on the edge of fabric. The only difference between them is the spacing between the stitches – buttonhole stitches are close together while blanket stitches are the same width as they are long.

Features

Often used to finish the raw edges of blankets and other fabrics to strengthen them and prevent fraying

Unusual because although the needle faces across your body, as with other stitches, the blanket stitches are worked back towards your dominant hand
